Hi Mike, and thank you for signing my guestbook.

Regarding the woman with the stroller, it's my understanding, based on news reports, that traces of cocaine were found on the stroller. You're right in that I don't think anyone reported finding amounts of cocaine in her possession. I am still appalled that any mother would use her child/and child's stroller in any way regarding drugs, or use drugs while caring for a baby.

I am sure that there is far more to the riot than what was reported. That always seems to be the case.

And you are also right that not all inmates are "bad" people. My own brother had his run-ins with police. He lived a rough life, one of homelessness, depression and addictions. He made bad choices in order to survive. He was not in any way a bad person. He was just very bad at making good choices. In fact, if he was still alive I am sure he'd be the first to say that many of his choices were just plain stupid.

That is life. One bad decision, one bad choice, can set your life on a path of despair. And one good choice can bring you hope. It's the law of attraction at its basest.

I hope you make good choices, Mike. Not everyone gets a second chance.

I was in matsqui when we had our riot(jan 25) and who ever wrote about matsqui should go deeper into the place we were upset about..
First off the lady with the stroller did not have cocaine on her and either did her baby,we (inmates) would not allow that..
Go ask the guys inside about that and get the guards to take the drug test to,,I bet that half them go off for drugs to..

Cheryl-
Thank you so much for Whale Song, it is a fantastic book! My sister gave it to me for my birthday last year, knowing that I love orcas and want to be a marine biologist some day. I didn't read the book right away, but now I am grateful my sister gave it to me. This book is amazing; I could never put it down. Please please please, consider a movie; it would be an amazing film. Continue to write about the whales, you are a fantastic and gifted writer!

Cheryl.

Thank you so very much for attending our book club meeting. We enjoyed speaking with you, and valued your company greatly. Whale Song was a wonderful, heart-felt book, and as we said, we all enjoyed it very much. We can't wait for Children of the Fog! I hope you will attend our book club meeting when we are finished reading that one! Take care. Michele
P.S. I still think Bootsie Crackenbush would make a great name for a character!

Thank you, Sage, for all your wonderful comments. Your words make me realize part of why I do this.

And thank you, Amanda, for your interesting question.

I have always 'seen' Whale Song as a movie. I believe it would make an award winner. I can picture it so clearly and I've had so many emails from people asking for a movie. One day.

As for a walk on role, I would love to be an extra (background actor) in the movie, Amanda. Years ago, I was an extra in Vancouver. I worked on 2 series--The Heights and The Commish. It was an exciting experience. I always watch the people in the background of movies now. I know when they're fake eating and fake clapping and fake singing. (Food is usually plastic, except drinks, and sound is usually dubbed in afterward to create ambience in a room or scene.)

I would even play Mrs. Higginson, the teacher, if they let me. :) But ultimately, it is the producer's choice.

Stephen King often popped up in his movies.

Thank you for sighning my guestbook! :)

Hello there!
I got a little question about the possible movie that could come to be! :) Whale song, I was just wondering if you were going to be in the movie, I hear some authors do that. Like the Author of, The Outsiders, she played Johnny's Nurse. Were you thinking about playing a walk in role like that in your movie?

Hi Cheryl,

I read Blast From My Past: Cheryl's Singing Career Continues over at AD today and I would like to leave you a comment here on your guestbook page. From early on, as a young woman, you knew what you wanted. It has paid off for you now as an adult woman. As you know, I have been tracking you on AD for over a year now and keeping up with your writing career. I am a fan. I truly enjoyed your virtual book tours and loved hearing stories about Whale Song that some of your fans shared with you and you shared with us and how well the bookstores treated you, and indeed they treated you well! I am truly routing for Whale Song to be made into a movie...it is more deserving than any book to film that I know of...this is a story so worthy of being told on the big screen and I am in such hopes that it will be a film someday soon. When it is made into the Whale Song movie, then get out those 2 trophies and polish a song out of them...be well always, Cheryl...

Warmly and an adoring fan,
Sage

I bought a copy of Whale Song at a book signing a few weeks ago. I wasn't sure what to expect but I loved it. What a great story! I have since purchased The River and Divine Intervention. I am looking forward to reading them as well.

Dear Rebekah, Sylvia and Gwen:

Thank you all so very much for your lovely comments.

Gwen, I really enjoyed meeting you and I'm glad you're enjoying your door prize. I had a lot of fun at the library, answering all your questions and chatting like we were old friends. :) I hope to see you again.

Sylvia, I'm glad to have met you at Chapters and so very happy that you enjoyed Whale Song. Reading your post, I can tell you have many parallels to the story. I am sorry to hear about your parents and I hope you find peace. Maybe one day you'll take a trip somewhere special and scatter their ashes.

Rebekah, I am sorry you had a hard time finding Whale Song. Some stores have it in stock, some don't. I wish it was in every bookstore. :) It just doesn't work that way--until you're in the leagues of Lisa Gardner, Luanne Rice, Stephen King...etc (I'm working on it!!! lol)

I am also sorry to hear about your loss, Rebekah. I hope you have made peace with it too. And thank you for sharing your story. One day, take a trip to Victoria, BC and go whale watching. I promise it will be an amazing trip.

Emails like these make me truly wish I could write faster. And they make me feel truly blessed. I am.

Thank YOU! You have no idea what it feels like to write such a story as Whale Song, to know it is your "heart book" and to learn that it has affected people so deeply. I am honored that you have read it.

Hugs to you all!!
Cheryl

Cheryl,

I have already emailed you, but I feel the need to post on your site for the public. I live in NewHampshire and have never had the privelage of traveling to Canada. After reading Whale Song I think I need to make a trip to Canada. The Story was amazing Cheryl. It is earie how I am reading this at 23, have lost my father who was a sailor. U.S Navy.

I was almost destined to read this. I found you, only by browsing through myspace. Then i went to two seperate places, neither of which had it in stock (Keep in mind I am in the United states.) I had forgotten that I asked the library to get it from a nearby library for me, so I ordered from the book store. By the Following Friday One copy was at the Library and one was at Borders books for me to purchase.

I read the book 100 pages at a sitting. (200 pages total) I only put it down because I had to drive to get lunch. : )

Brilliant Writing Cheryl.

Love From the U.S

Dear Cheryl,

I met you last Sunday (October 14) at Chapter's Books in WEM, and promised you that I'd read "Whale Song" that night. I did!!!!!!!!

It was wonderful. There were so many parallels to my own life. I've lived in Vancouver and Victoria. My father died in Victoria Jubilee Hospital. I have my parents ashes with me, and intend to scatter them sometime. I love the isolation of the Queen Charlotte Islands. I'm intending to go to the Prince William Sound area, sometime in my life, to see the "spirit bears".

Thank you so much. I will definitely recommend this book to the young students I see daily.

Sincerely, Sylvia Hannah
